EPISODE 5

SEASON 1

Friends of Wesleyville Village

Welcome to the heritage village at Wesleyville on Lakeshore Road in Port Hope. Since 2009 a group of about 150 volunteers called the Friends of Wesleyville Village have been working to restore and revitalize the village property and the buildings still standing. They have leased the Church from the United Church of Canada for 9 years and restored it. The cemetery is well managed by community volunteers and enjoyed by many visitors. The rest of the 7.5 acre provincial heritage site is owned by Ontario Power Generation and last year the Friends got a 20 year lease on the School, the Oughtred House and barn. They're still hoping to lease the Barrowclough house and barn foundation to the east of the Church. Each year they have lots of fun activities in the village and they open the Village to visitors every Sunday afternoon in the summer. The Easter Egg Hunt on April 20th was very successful and fun for all. Restoration and managing these buildings is costly so fund-raising is essential. They've received support from the Architectural Conservancy Ontario, the Municipality of Port Hope and Cameco Corp. and welcome donations from all visitors.
